Considering a Dating Coach?

I read this N.Y. Times article about dating coaches and here is my analysis of its advice.

On devoting 15 hours a week to dating as suggested by coach Nancy Slotnick, I say that's not the correct commitment to make. You need to be in dating mode constantly or you will miss that cute guy who's reading The Onion at Starbucks on his lunch break. Thinking about it in terms hours to slot into your calendar is not the way I go about it when I am actively dating. The reason why is that when you are in a relationship, you will be in girlfriend mode constantly. Never look at your love life as putting in time. It's just wrong and a romance killer for sure.

I noticed that none of the singles and their coaches mentioned their dating goals. Setting goals is really important so you don't date aimlessly for months. I would advise anyone who hires a coach to insert an incentive into the payment structure that matches your timeline. Want a committed relationship within a year? Find a coach who agrees to a bonus for meeting that goal. Be sure to monitor your progress as you don't want to be spending money on someone who lets you coast along.

The most common piece of advice is to stay positive. With that in mind, I wish you all happy dating!

Vote for Best Los Angeles Singles Scene!

Tasty LA was nominated by CitySearch for their Top 10 list so congratulations to Lynn and please vote for what you think is the best place to meet singles in Los Angeles.

I must say though I am mystified that closed places are nominated. What's the point of that?

May the best L.A.S.S. win!

The Four Man Plan in Four Cities!

Congratulations to former Sock Club guest speaker Cindy Lu for the nationwide release of her book The Four Man Plan with more new pages plus a success story from a Sock Club member who got engaged earlier this year. In the book, she is "Georgia" and she was inspired to do the plan when a group of us went to see Cindy's one-woman show by the same name. Here's an excerpt:

Cindy is currently on her book tour so check out her website to see if she'll be in a city near you.

The Best Places to Find Men Over 35 on Oprah!

Thank you to The Oprah Show and Men's Health magazine for taking the time to figure out where all the single, straight men over 35 are. Number one on the list is San Jose, which I shall refer to in the future as Man Jose.

Curious to see which state is bursting with eligible fellows, I tallied up the cities and found Texas dominated with five cities on the list, California is the runner-up with four, and North Carolina came in third with three. This sounds like a good ol' beauty pageant!

Here's the complete list of the Top 20 Cities.

San Francisco - the Best City for Singles!

Forbes has announced the winner of its annual Best Cities for Singles report and it's San Francisco, knocking Denver (aka Menver) off the pedestal which it held for three years. New York City is runner-up and Los Angeles takes the bronze.

Using criteria like "coolness" and the average cost of rent, a Pizza Hut pizza, a movie ticket, and a six-pack of Heineken, the wise guys of Forbes ranked 40 of the biggest cities in the continental U.S. I think pizza and beer sounds like the survey skews toward the dudes. What about the average cost of a manicure and bikini wax?

Check out the report and let me know what you think!

"He's Just Not That Into You" - the movie!

Many thanks to gal pal Kiyomi who saw this in the Hollywood Reporter. I really wanted to make my first post on the Sock Club blog newsworthy and this definitely is!

It looks like Ben Affleck and Jennifer Aniston will be joining romantic comedy royalty Drew Barrymore in the movie version of "He's Just Not That Into You" that self-help book co-birthed by former "Sex and The City" writer Greg Behrendt.

I'm hoping the film is as good as the book and helps a lot of women escape from those men who just aren't that into them so they can go meet those men who really are!
