READING & SIGNING: 'TAO OF DATING FOR WOMEN'

An invitation from Dr. Alex Benzer, our guest speaker last month:

WED 15 JULY 2009, 7PM @ BOOK SOUP, WEST HOLLYWOOD

Ladies --

I'm very pleased to announce my first public live
event since the release of 'The Tao of Dating: The
Smart Woman's Guide to Being Absolutely Irresistible.'

I'll be doing a reading at Book Soup, the world-
infamous independent LA bookstore right on the Sunset
Strip.

It's just an amazing bookstore, and it's an immense
privilege for me to read where I have come to see some
of my own literary heroes give readings.

And did I mention that there would be wine? Yes,
there will be wine, courtesy of yours truly.
Specifically, Italian sparkling wine (prosecco is
one of my favorite).

Here's the information:

'Tao of Dating for Women' Reading at Book Soup
Wed, 15 July 2009 at 7pm
8818 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood CA 90069
Afterparty at a bar around the corner TBA

We'll start with the reading at around 7pm and
then do a Q&A for all your burning questions.

Afterwards, we'll mosey around the corner to a
bar and continue the festivities.

I would recommend that you show up EARLY if you
want a seat, because Book Soup ain't huge.

And if you're on my list, wear a flower somewhere
on your outfit and make sure you come say hi to
me so I can give you my extra-special attention :)

Hope you can make it!

The power is within you,
Dr Alex

PPS: I'm interested in your questions, comments and stories.
Keep them BRIEF please -- ten lines or less is ideal --
and zap 'em to me at dralex(at)thetaoofdating.com. I may
not be able to respond to all of them personally, but I do
read them all.

Slow Dining - Dinner Parties by Kelly

Kelly is hosting her dinner parties again this summer. Let her know if you're interested at kellystanphill@yahoo.com. She is an excellent cook!

Message from Kelly:

Happy Almost Summer!

So, I really want to get back into the party biz....but only for my single friends. And, since I love to cook............I've decided on a new format:

Sit down dinners in my backyard (in Santa Monica), for 24 people: 12 men, 12 women, 4 tables, 4 courses. (This requires a bit of math, not my strong suit!): 3 women at each table. Women stay put, men move to the other tables per course. Whew, took me a while to figure that one out!

Sort of like Speed Dating...but the opposite: Slow Dining.

I will need to charge $30 plus a bottle of wine to compliment the menu (which I will soon figure out). The $30 will cover the food, the furniture rentals, decor, cleaning, etc.

Since I have a tiny kitchen and I am one person, I will need two helpers (one guy, one girl) to: serve, plate the food, make sure the candles are lit, the tables are clean, etc. (Helpers are free of course.)

The first hour (or so).... will be spent having a signature cocktail, wine or beer, or other beverage, while I slave in the kitchen. :-) (But I love that so don't worry about me!)

Then you'll sit down for the four courses: appetizer, salad, entree and dessert.

Then another hour or two for post dinner cocktails, and fun.................

Before I go ahead and plan this I need to know if this is something that anyone would even be interested in? If so my first party will be Saturday, July 11.

Please let me know if this sounds like a good idea, a bad idea, or a super good idea and I'll end up on Oprah soon.

(Also, my LA Supper Club email list is hopelessly out of date so I am going to start with a fresh list, which will frankly, be the most time consuming part of this project. Please spread the word, help me build up my list again, let me know if you want off the list, or want to add someone to the list. (Age range: mid-30s-40s-early 50s). ISH. With this type of dinner party, I really want to have a good mix of people to make the dinner a success.)

Cheers,

Kelly

I agree since dating takes time, you must try relationships on, and you can do comparison dating online. Don't forget to clean out your romantic closet to make room for new love!

Dare: Trade in Mr. Maybe for Mr. Yes

I've had friends get engaged recently which proves that in Los Angeles in the year 2009 there are men not afraid of marriage or women over 40. I've also heard of others who are dating people who don't truly make them happy and I'm thinking why?

This article by Ian Kerner provides insight on why singles drift in a haze of partial happiness. I love that he refers to author Milan Kundera and autophobia which explains why some cannot leave mediocre relationships. Most importantly, there is a gentle reminder throughout that we are alive for a limited amount of time, so why squander it on Mr. Maybe when you could be with a Mr. Yes.
