Who's Reading What: Snag a Man with a Warm Plate of Cookies

I watched this video online about three gal pals who asked a bunch of guys what they wanted in a woman and kept hearing them say "Can she cook?" So they decided to write a book to help ladies bake their way to victory in the competitive sport of dating. Here's an excerpt from the cookbook, “The Get ’Em Girls’ Guide to the Power of Cuisine.”

Of course it helps to cook what he likes to eat so do your research!

I LEK it!

I read about The LEK on Online Personals Watch and it looks promising as a new dating website that matches singles based on where they like to eat and hang out. That is so commonsensical in a "why didn't I think of that" way. Plus they have lots of popular restaurants on board, including ugo in Culver City whose owner Ugo is very gregarious indeed. There is a LEK event there tonight so I say U go!

Dare: Crazy. Blind. Date.

Many thanks to gal pal Teresa for letting me know about a free dating website called Crazy Blind Date that is perfect for the last minute, adrenaline junkie single who doesn't mind leaving their love life in the hands of complete and utter randomness.

I read through the FAQs and the double blind date is an intriguing concept for those who like to bring along their trusty wingwoman.

As always, happy crazy blind dating!

Who's Reading What: Kiyomi's Summer Reading

My gal pal Kiyomi has recommended a great collection of dating and relationship books for you to savor while lounging poolside with a icy drink. I have read Emotional Intelligence and Social Intelligence and I think they're really good, especially for understanding human behavior.

Here are Kiyomi's picks:
52 Fights: A Newlywed's Confession - Real Story of A First Year of Marriage
The Divorce Lawyers' Guide to Staying Married

Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships
Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ

Kiyomi says, "I'll add three books, but they aren't so much for "learning" as for realizing that there are worse dating stories out there than yours so KEEP THINKING POSITIVE and enjoy your dating journey."
The Year of Yes
Kick Me: Adventures in Adolescence
Superstud: Or How I Became a 24-Year-Old Virgin

And for those of you who prefer internet reading, she also likes eHarmony Advice.

Thanks, Kiyomi, and happy reading everyone!

Sex and The City the movie is finally here!

I toast the gals of Sex and The City with a cosmo and this fact from the following video: 66% of women ages 25 to 44 are single in Manhattan! According to this short "Dating to Win" sent to me from Kai of Current TV, one way to find love is to hire a dating coach such as Nancy Slotnick in New York City. She'll help you "turn your cablight on" through advice on how to create a man-friendly living space and more.

Inspirational True Story - She's engaged!

Here an Inspirational True Story from a Sock Club member. I'm using her first initial to keep it anonymous. Enjoy!

I met my fiance (he's Chinese-American Christian) online on ChristianCafe.com. Actually, it's really funny--you know G works for e-Harmony and during Labor Day weekend 2007 they had a free matches weekend on e-Harmony. She told me to do that--so I did--but I GOT NOTHING!! You think with 17 million members, I could at least have 1 match? Well, anyways, so I wasn't getting any matches that weekend from e-Harmony so I went to ChristianCafe.com to try it out. They were having a free 7-day trial promotion to counter-act e-Harmony's free communication weekend. Since finding an Asian-American Christian guy was important to me, I said "What the heck"...I filled out ChristianCafe's profile (which only took me half an hour to do) and once I had a profile, I could do a search.

I found some "matches" that met my criteria, but his profile stood out since
1. He was a Christian, and Chinese-American (which are my must-haves)
2. He likes to help the homeless! (Which is a ministry that is dear to my heart).
3. He loves to cook (which is very near and dear to my heart!)

So, I "winked" and sent him an e-mail saying that I enjoyed his profile. He e-mailed me a few days later and that's how it all got started. We started talking on the phone about 10 days after exchanging e-mails and he came to LA for 1 week end of October and that's when we knew we were "it" for one another!

Seriously Pearl, I've told a lot of my friends that maybe some of the girls may need to go with some "marginalized" guys (meaning they are bad dressers, kinda socially awkward, etc)...you never know what you can find if you dust off and smooth some of the edges. I mean, he was a horrible dresser (I've helped to changed that), looked older than he is (since he has grey hair, but I've made him professionally dye his hair) and somewhat overweight (we're both eating healthier). That is just the outside which we can change/improve....but what drew me was his character and his love and consideration for me. So, please tell the girls to not overlook the "marginalized" guys--if they're willing to roll their sleeves and do some work, they can find a diamond in the rough!!!

Keep encouraging the girls and thanks so much for organizing a group like this---us single gals need support in order to find our mates!

Love,
C

Sock Club Dare: Are you a Cougar?

Thanks to Liz for forwarding this to me. It looks like they are defining cougar as single and over 35 so I guess that makes me one. Growl! I dare you to check it out, especially those of you who have businesses to promote. It could be a great opportunity for free publicity. Here's the invite:

There is a popular dating class currently in Los Angeles called Cougar Class. It's a 2-hour program that instructs women how to be more confident and secure in the dating scene. It has been featured on KTLA and is highlighted in this month's issue of Los Angeles Magazine.

We are now in the process of selecting featured students for our reality show that will be in production starting this summer. So if you can share interesting stories or entertaining tips about being an older woman within the singles scene, we want you to attend our next class and dazzle us with your energy, charisma, and honesty.

Our next Cougar Class is:
Thursday, May 1, 8:00PM
Sheraton Pasadena Hotel, 303 East Cordova Street, Pasadena, CA 91101

Please RSVP and tell us any relevant information that might describe you better to info@cougarclass.com

If you're interested and interesting, come join us at the X-Bar in Century City at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel, 2025 Avenue of the Stars. $10 cover after 8:30pm. There's valet parking in the front.

Who's Reading What: "Marry Him"

Ever wondered if you should just ditch dating and have a kid on your own?

Here's the story of one woman who did at 38 and how she believes that she should have settled instead of holding out for perfection. Or as my grandmother once advised me, "Marry with one eye closed!"

Lori Gottlieb, 40 and a single mother by sperm donor, writes the compelling article, aptly titled "Marry Him", for The Atlantic and there is also an interview with her.

The Today Show interviewed single women about her article as well.

I hope Lori meets someone "good enough" to marry soon!

Chick TV: "Millionaire Matchmaker" on Bravo

The dating season continues as Bravo introduces a new series about a matchmaker Patti Stanger who works in Los Angeles with wealthy men. Aptly titled Millionaire Matchmaker, the show looks like it'd be a good example of how a matchmaker can help you if you feel you need to hire someone to find love. Hopefully Patti has some dating advice that anyone can use.

Chick TV: "Matched in Manhattan" on Lifetime

Welcome to hunting-for-love season!

To kick off the dating rush during January, there's a new show on Lifetime about dating in the big city, specifically New York. After catching a glimpse last Friday night, I watched the first episode online today. I think it's entertaining enough to watch again to see how singles trip themselves up and then change to win in the dating game.

Matched in Manhattan reveals the etiquette of dating through the work of a newlywed dating coach and matchmaker, Matt Titus, who helps singles remodel their looks and homes to attract love.

May they all find someone soon!

Who's Reading What: America's Most Lustful Cities

Here's a lusty article in Forbes from Sock Club member Anne. I guess the "home page of the world's business leaders" isn't afraid to tackle the more intimate parts of capitalism.

I checked out this provocative piece of statistically-based journalism and found out that Denver is the most safe-loving city in the USA which gives an alternative meaning to the Mile High Club.

Congratulations to Denver, also known as Menver for its abundance of single guys!
